ProSol Supports Successful Casino Night Charity Event for GWU Breast Care Center Fund
On October 8, 2011, ProSol supported the Caribbean Casino Night and Silent Auction benefitting GWU's Breast Care Center’s Patient Assistance Fund, which took place at the Carlyle Club in Alexandria, Virginia. Participants played a variety of games ranging from craps, Russian roulette, Texas Hold’em poker, and blackjack. Each game came equipped with “funny money” to purchase chips, and professional dealers manned the tables, offering tips to pros and novices alike.
A variety of auction items were given away, including a trip to Panama City Beach, Florida; an executive retreat at the beautiful Rosemont Manor; and a dinner-and-movie date night in Washington, D.C. Total proceeds came to $80,000.
Dr. Christy Teal, the Head of the GWU Breast Care Center, made some heartfelt comments on the importance of this event to the GWU Patient Assistance Fund. As Christy mentioned, with support from the Fund, which did not start until PS Charities held its first silent auction three years ago, the Breast Care Center has helped women overcome financial burdens and has established educational seminars for patients transitioning from treatment.
At the center, they believe that the type of care you receive as a patient can influence how well you recover. The center seeks to help patients successfully move through all stages of the continuum of care for breast cancer diagnoses. The Fund has also provided support with overdue utility bills; rent subsidies; transportation expenses; babysitting expenses so a patient can keep her medical appointments; medications related to breast cancer diagnosis or treatment; bras for mastectomy patients; physical therapy; Lymphedema care; and sessions with the Reiki Master and Naturopath at the Center for Integrative Medicine.
ProSol CEO Michael J. Dean thanked member of Team ProSol who made the event a success. "Your commitment to being something larger than ourselves is what makes events like these a success," he said. Special thanks go to Sam Penico (lead volunteer); Lisa McKeon; Melissa Hart; Beth Moss; Michelle Ellia; Jackie Albright; Jon Carlo Trujillo and his wife, Cheyenne; Hilary Mehrer; Christina Maddox; Sean DeWyngaert; Maryam Wakman; Duane McQueen; Adelaide Williams; Holly Li; Jen Jenkins; Jon Dean; and Carlos Prado.
